I had this unexpected headshot session with some family members. What I want to talk about here is the importance of your setup; once you understand what you have, and what you’re doing, you can achieve your unique goal rather seamlessly.
I am lucky that my family did not mind my mess. In a second you can see the power of my eye lighter, and how it creates this specific look I want for my headshots.
Even though I did not have my background in place, I’d doesnt matter all that much as you can easily change it in post. These have little editing done to them.
Eye lighter in all its glory! If you’re wondering what I’m talking about, it’s the first photo up, that long curved reflector in front of the subject. it provides fill light to whatever shadows are casted from the soft boxes, and inprints this arch reflection in the eyes. I love how it makes the eyes pop, which should be the most important thing about a headshot/portrait.
